I may be extremely biased; but only in a very different and open place are distinct individuals able to grow comfortable enough to objectively criticize and/or joke about their own community. Maybe I am not making myself clear. Chicago is the only place where everyone makes jokes about being there, but will die defending it. A professor somewhere else would probably not have been as bold as to admit that there are far less full-time professor than someone else claims.
Regardless, it is that light-hearted dedication that made me fall in love with Chicago from the very first second. Even if I too joked about being there. Harvard’s got nothing on us; and if someone would like to say otherwise, I am sure there are hundreds, even thousands, who wouldn’t mind listening – but none of them can call Chicago their own.
