To those who lived through September 11, 2001

The images across my eyes reduced the past to nothing
But I have never known truth like I did on that dark day
when sorrow met determination before the end.

A whole generation has gone to sleep at night
to find peace every morning.
Peace is what we’ve known; peace is where we stand.
I mean, that was then; now it’s war.

We’ve woken up to sirens, and blackened skies above.
The only foundations shaken were those of what we’ve known.
And now we stand together, like other did back when,
to see that no more children will stand like us today.

The future lies in peace; let others this not change.
Like the children who’ll defend it did,
so others will live free each day.
